Celebration Starts Tonight With Classic Car Show

Granbury, Texas – The Granbury Chamber of Commerce is revved up to welcome the D & D Rockin’ Rods Car Show on Friday, July 1st starting at 7 p.m. at Jerry Durant Hyundai on Highway 377.  All hot rods, antique cars and anything “unique on wheels” are invited to join the show.

Ten dollar entry free to show off your classic beauty will be collected at the gate.  If you can drive it, drag it, push it, tow it or show it to the show, you can register it.

Numerous awards will be given out including Best of Show, Best Under Construction, Special Interest, Best Cycle, Best Patriotic Display and Best Late Models.  Winners will receive a trophy.

Patrons are free and plenty of parking will be available.  During the night, D & D will have games for the children including hula hooping and the limbo.  Concessions will be available as well.  For more information about the show, visit www.ddrockinrods.com.  Car show is sponsored by Jerry Durant Hyundai and Ron Cullers Automotive.

Grand Finale Fireworks Show Will Knock the Lights Out

Nationally known as one of the top 4th of July’s fireworks shows, Granbury is getting ready to light up the sky on Monday, July 4th. The fireworks extravaganza is presented by the Granbury Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the City of Granbury.

In 2010, the annual fireworks show was recognized by Yellow Pages.com as one of the Top 10 Fireworks Show in the Southwest United States, and one of the top 50 in the nation. Thousands of phone calls have been logged at the Chamber asking specifically about the fireworks show.

This year’s show has 200 more shots than last year. Watchers can tune into 1420 KPIR to listen to patriotic music during the fireworks show.

The Grand Finale Fireworks show starts at 9:40 p.m. Best places to watch the show are: off Highway 377 between Kroger’s and the Highway 144 Bridge; by boat on Lake Granbury; or after the Ranch Rodeo at the Reunion Grounds.

4th of July T-shirts Flying Fast

The Granbury Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for this year’s 4th of July celebration by offering you the first chance to grab a 2011 4th of July commemorative t-shirt.  This year’s shirt is offered in either navy blue or white, and features the 2011 logo designed by Amy Klemer of Envision Creative Services. 

T-shirts are available at the Chamber office at 3408 East Highway 377, and in all local banks.

Sizes available are extra small through medium for youth; and small through 3XL for adults.  Youth and adult sizes are $10 each; 2XL and 3XL are $12 each.

The Granbury Chamber of Commerce teamed up with the fourth grade classes in Granbury Independent School District to gather masterpieces of art depicting what the Fourth of July means to them.

Over three hundred students submitted their interpretations for a chance to win $30 and a first-place blue ribbon representing each school.

Campus winners were:

Acton Elementary School:  Yari Press, first; Benjamin Lillagore, second; Madi Salazar, third

 

 

 

Baccus Elementary School:  Blaine Dixon, first; Randi Spurlock, second; Jacob Kelsey, third

 

 

Brawner Intermediate School:  Kylie Horton, first; Ashley Fant, second; Courtney Gilley, third

 

 

 

Mambrino School:  Brock McKee, first

 

 

 

Oak Woods School:  Micah Tucker, first; Jillian Richardson, second

 

 

 

Prior to the Fourth of July Celebration, various businesses around town will display the masterpieces to create excitement leading up to the event.  During the festival, Tarleton’s Dora Lee Langdon Center will open the Concert Hall for an art show featuring the winners’ and other masterpieces.

The art project was sponsored by Glasgow, Taylor, Isham and Glasgow Law Firm.

Tickets On Sale for USO Big Band Dance

Dust off your dancing shoes for a little swing dancing!  The Langdon Big Band will be rockin’ the night away playing the tunes from the 1940s Big Band era on Saturday, July 2nd starting at 8 p.m. at the Granbury Resort Conference Center.  Tickets are $15 each and the proceeds will go towards the Langdon Big Band Scholarship fund.

This unique event was debuted in 2010 and had an overwhelming response its first year.   Many active and retired military were in attendance, including nine War World II veterans.  Each branch of the military was asked to stand during their service melody for recognition.  Attendees are asked to wear their military regalia.

Again, tickets are $15 each and be purchased by calling or coming by the Granbury Chamber of Commerce at 817-573-1622.
